Quick Note

We went to the cardiologist today and everything looks fine with Nathan's heart. He cleared us for any procedure the doctors in Birmingham may want to have done. He doesn't feel he needs to see Nathan until next year. I also received the paperwork from the hospital in Birmingham with a list of testing they plan to do. I am excited and extremely nervous about this trip. I am praying we will get answers! I probably won't post much until (or after) our trip. Thanks for all the emails I've gotten showing your support. Everyone's prayers and support helps us so much and keeps us going! Ya'll have been wonderful! We are so blessed to have such great family and friends.

Once again......

It has been a while since I've posted and a lot has been happening. I had to take some time to get my thoughts together before I shared the latest news with everyone.

We found some disturbing news about Nathan two weeks ago. On the morning of Friday (05/20th) we woke to find that Nathan's diaper was full of blood. After calling the doctor and going in for a urine culture we went to the hospital for an ultrasound. They found that Nathan still has the 4mm kidney stone on his right kidney. It is in the same place and the radiologist stated that they must have "missed it" on the ultrasound done in December. We went to Children's Hospital the following Monday to see a Nephrologist. They performed blood work and a urine culture which both came back fine. At that time the doctor stated he wanted monitor the stone every six months. As most everyone is aware, this DOES NOT sit well with me. I feel as if we are sitting on a bomb. If this stone moves, he will not under any circumstance be able to pass it. It will get stuck in his tube and will cause infection. Also we learned he has fluid building up on the right kidney. After talking to his Pediatrician she agreed that we need a strong second medical opinion outside of Louisiana. I got the call today that we now have an appointment at Children's Hospital in Birmingham Alabama on May 15th. They plan to repeat an ultrasound and do extensive lab work. Also to add more concern for us...Nathan is not gaining any weight, again! For the past two weeks he has maintained 16lbs 7oz. This is a major concern. He is almost 16 months old weighing 16 pounds. He has only gained approx 6 pounds in the past year!! There has to be something wrong. He is eating almost all day long and not gaining anything.

I haven't been able to post this information before now mostly because of my own personal frustration. It has been a year now since we first found the kidney stones and we are no closer to a solution then we were then. Someone, somewhere HAS to have an answer for this. I pray that this doctor in Birmingham will. There isn't much else I can say right now except to ask all of you to PLEASE pray that we will find ANSWERS with this trip. At this point I really just need to know what needs to be done to solve this. He cannot go another year with this stone on his kidney, just waiting for it to move. Again, I will ask if anyone reading this knows ANYTHING on this issue please let me know. ( email
jplan1026@aol.com ) Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Please keep him in your prayers and I will have my laptop with me and will update as soon as I know any new info.
Thanks to all,
Julie
